Overview

The Kailash Mansarovar trip presents a challenging yet fulfilling adventure, guiding you through the breathtaking landscapes of the Himalayas to the revered Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovarโ€”two of the most sacred sites in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon.

The trekking trail passes through the Sagarmatha National Park which has been inscribed as the countryโ€™s first national park to be listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. If one is lucky enough, a rare glimpse of Himalayan Fauna and Flora can also be spotted.

The journey typically commences in the quaint town of Darchen, situated in western Tibet, following a circular path around Mount Kailash that spans roughly 52 kilometers. This trek requires navigating high-altitude passes, rugged terrain, and icy streams, demanding good physical fitness, acclimatization to altitude, and appropriate gear and equipment.

Throughout the trip, travelers are treated to some of the world's most spectacular natural scenery, including snow-capped mountain peaks, glacial valleys, and the shimmering turquoise waters of Lake Mansarovar. Additionally, trekkers have the opportunity to explore ancient monasteries, temples, and other sacred landmarks that are scattered throughout the region.

The Kailash Mansarovar Trip transcends physical challenge; it also serves as a spiritual journey, offering moments for reflection, self-discovery, and a profound connection with nature and the divine. This once-in-alifetime experience necessitates meticulous planning, preparation, and the guidance of knowledgeable trekking operators and guides.

Itinerary

Day 1

  • Arrive at Kathmandu airport, where our representative will greet you and transfer you to the hotel. En route, visit Pashupatinath Temple and other holy temples as well. Overnight stay at a 4-star Hotel (Hotel Shankar, Hotel Royal Singi, or similar).
Day 2

  • After your breakfast, we'll proceed to the airport, fly to Nepalgunj, and transfer to the hotel. Our representative will brief you about the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in the evening. Overnight stay at Nepalgunj in Hotel Siddhartha or Hotel Cygnett.
Day 3

  • Wake up early in the morning and drive to Nepalgunj Airport. Catch the flight to Simikot and rest for a few hours at Simikot, followed by a helicopter ride to Hilsa. Wait for other group travellers to reach Hilsa and drive to Purang. Overnight stay at Hotel Purang, Hotel Himalaya, or similar. The flight duration from Nepalgunj to Simikot is 40โ€“50 minutes, followed by a 10โ€“20 minute helicopter ride from Simikot to Hilsa.
Day 4

  • You will be acclimatizing at Purang and might go for a small trek in preparation for Kailash Mansarovar Parikrama. Overnight stay at Hotel Purang, Hotel Himalaya, or similar. Purang is a small and very clean town with lots of shops that have the necessary items for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and Parikrama as well. You can buy trekking sticks, water gallons for storing Holy Mansarovar water, some packed juices, and other necessary items. Donโ€™t forget to bargain, because bargaining happens at almost every shop.
Day 5

  • Start your journey to Mansarover Lake in the AC Volvo category bus (2 hours), then proceed to Parikrama at Mansarovar Lake. Take a dip along with performing puja at divine Lake Mansarovar and complete the parikrama of Lake Mansarovar in 2-3 hours, covering around 105 km. While coming to Mansarovar Lake, catch the first glimpse of Kailash Parvat. It's an overwhelming and undeniable view to see Divine Mount Kailash just next to Holy Lake Mansarovar. Overnight stay at a Guest House near Lake Mansarovar. If weather permits, you can visit Lake Mansarovar in the night or early morning (Brahm Muhurt), too to witness the divinity of the place.
Day 6

  • After a short drive from Lake Mansarovar, you will reach Darchen, which is the base for Kailash Parikrama and Ashtapad Darshan.
  • Important: We will visit Asthapad only if we get permission from Chinese authorities. Overnight stay in Hotel Himalaya or similar.
Day 7

  • The First Day of Parikrama on Mount Kailash - Wake up early in the morning and drive to Yamdwar, where youโ€™ll take the first step towards the Parikrama of Kailash Parvat and begin the trek to Dirapuk, which is a 10-kilometre trek on the first day of Mount Kailash Parikrama. Get enlightened and feel blessed by the darshan of the North Face of Mount Kailash on the first day of Parikrama, which is considered to be most auspicious. Those who will not be going for Parikrama will travel from Yamdwar to Darchen, which is just 30 minutes away, and stay there in a guest house for 2 nights and enjoy the undeniable view of the holy Mount Kailash.
  • Important: Parikrama is optional. Few would be doing Parikrama by walking, a few by horse, and a few old people may not be doing Parikrama. Please note that those who are not taking part in Kailash Parvat Parikrama with their fellow travellers need to stay in Darchen/Purang for 2 days, for which the expenses related to accommodation will be borne by themselves. Meaning, Trip To Temples won't cover the additional cost of the Darchen/Purang stay, hence the traveller needs to pay it upfront to the hotel management. Exceptionally, meals will be arranged by us. People staying at Darchen will join other group members in the first half once they complete the third day of Parikrama.
Day 8

  • Wake up early on your second day of Kailash Parvat Parikrama and start your trek of 22 km from Dirapuk to Dolma La Pass and then to Zuthulpuk. It is also said to be the most difficult part of the journey throughout the Kailash Parvat Yatra, as you will be trekking up to 18,600 feet above sea level. From Dolma La Pass descends to Gauri Kund and further treks along the river to Zuthulpuk. Overnight stay: lodge or guest house. On the 2nd day of your Mount Kailash Parikrama, the first 6-7 km (till Dolma La Pass at 5600 m) has a very steep climb and is also considered the most difficult part of the Yatra. All the yatris who are doing the Parikrama of Kailash Parvat are advised to take a comfortable time to cover it and rest whenever and wherever they feel any kind of problem. After the first 6-7 km, the remaining 16 km are comparatively plain, downward, and comfortable.
  • Important: While performing Parikrama (Day 2), you will pass through Shivasthal (a sacred place for Tibetans who believe that whatever you offer here, you will get it in heaven) and Gauri Kund. After Dolma La Pass, it's a long, pleasant trek beside the river. You will see the eastern face of Mount Kailash here.
Day 9

  • The third and last day of Mount Kailash Parikrama is about 8 km and takes almost 3 hours to complete. Generally, we complete the parikrama by 9:00โ€“10:00 a.m. After completing Parikrama, we will drive to Darchen, merge with other members of the tour who didn't go to Mount Kailash Parikrama, and then drive to Dongba. Overnight stay in the hotel (Xixa Panama, Mu being Chung or similar).
Day 10

  • Drive to Hilsa by AC luxury vehicle and fly back to Simikot by helicopter, followed by Nepalgunj and Kathmandu by flight. Overnight stay at a 4-star hotel (Hotel Shankar, Hotel Royal Singi, or similar).
Day 11

  • After that, feel free to proceed to your home destination with the blessings of Lord Shiva!!
  • Note: Itineraries are subject to change or modification in unavoidable circumstances.
